KKR Triumphs in Thrilling Super Over Against LSG
KKR Clinches Victory in Super Over
On Sunday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a thrilling win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the first super over of the current Indian Premier League (IPL) season held in Lucknow. LSG could only muster a single run in the super over, setting a target of two runs for KKR. Rinku Singh responded decisively, hitting a four on the very first ball to clinch the match for KKR.
LSG Struggles in Run Chase
LSG's chase got off to a rocky start with the early dismissal of Mitchell Marsh during the Powerplay. Following this setback, captain Rishabh Pant and Aiden Markram attempted to stabilize the innings. However, KKR's disciplined bowling, particularly from Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy, made scoring runs challenging. The duo managed only 57 runs for the loss of one wicket after nine overs, and despite a 49-run partnership, their lack of boundaries increased the required run rate significantly.
Turning Point for KKR
The match shifted in KKR's favor during the middle overs. Just when LSG needed to accelerate, Markram was caught spectacularly by Rinku Singh off Cameron Green's bowling after scoring 30 runs. Shortly after, Rishabh Pant was dismissed following a smart review by KKR's keeper Tim Seifert, leaving LSG in a precarious position at 81/3 in the 13th over.
Lower Order's Struggle
With the required run rate climbing to 11 runs per over, the pressure mounted on Ayush Badoni and the lower order. Nicholas Pooran's innings was brief, as he fell to Varun Chakaravarthy after scoring just 9 runs off 12 balls. Mukul Choudhary also departed for a mere 1 run in the 16th over, bringing Himmat Singh to the crease. Singh and Badoni managed to score 14 runs off Kartik Tyagi in the 17th over.
Rinku Singh's Stellar Performance
Earlier in the match, Rinku Singh's remarkable unbeaten innings of 83 runs off 51 balls was pivotal in helping KKR recover from a dire situation, where they found themselves at 93/7 in 15 overs, to finish with a total of 155/7 in their IPL 2026 match against LSG.
Mohsin Khan's Bowling Prowess
After LSG captain Rishabh Pant opted to bowl first, Mohsin Khan's exceptional performance was evident as he dismantled KKR's batting lineup with a stunning five-wicket haul of 5/23 in four overs. He struck early, dismissing KKR's opener for a duck in the second over, followed by Ajinkya Rahane and Cameron Green, who had threatened to counterattack.
Rinku's Late-Game Explosion
Despite the challenging situation, Rinku Singh played a crucial role in stabilizing the innings alongside the lower order. As the match progressed, KKR found themselves at 112/7 in 18 overs, with Rinku at 43 runs off 40 balls. He then exploded in the final overs, scoring 17 runs off Mohammed Shami's penultimate over and hitting four consecutive sixes off Digvesh Rathi in the last over, finishing KKR's innings at 155/7.
