2026-27 Indian Football League Season Begins

The Indian Football League (IFL) is set to commence its 2026–27 season tomorrow, featuring a historic debut and a return to a full home-and-away format. The opening match will see Real Kashmir FC host newcomers Nagaland United SC at the TRC Stadium in Srinagar, with the match scheduled to start at 18:30 IST.

Real Kashmir FC's Journey

Last season, Real Kashmir faced a tough start, finishing in the lower half of the standings and entering the relegation phase. However, they made a strong comeback, securing their league position for another season. Under the guidance of Head Coach Ishfaq Ahmed, the team gained momentum late in the season, achieving three consecutive victories during the relegation phase, including a notable 3–0 win against Gokulam Kerala FC and a 2–1 victory over Aizawl FC, finishing the phase with 14 points.

Home Advantage for Real Kashmir FC

Ishfaq Ahmed returns to lead the team this season and expressed optimism about their opening match. He noted, "The players are familiar with Aizawl FC, but a new coach has taken over with a different approach. We are prepared to play aggressive football at home and are eager for the match." He also acknowledged the unwavering support from fans, inviting them to attend the matches this season.

Nagaland United's Historic Entry

For Nagaland United, this match marks a significant milestone in their brief history. Established in 2024 in Chümoukedima, Dimapur, the club will compete in the IFL just two years after its inception, bringing national-league football to a state that has long awaited representation. Their entry was made possible through a goodwill agreement with Aizawl FC, sanctioned by the All India Football Federation on September 9, 2026.

Team Goals and Coaching Plans

Nagaland United has appointed Kaizad Ambapardiwalla as their Head Coach for the season. Kaizad previously led Jamshedpur FC to the quarterfinals in the Durand Cup 2026. He aims to develop a competitive team with a focus on discipline and a winning mentality. Ahead of their inaugural match, he stated, "We are not just here to participate; we aim to compete and win." The team will be captained by defender Rohmingthanga, who has experience playing for Aizawl FC.

Squad Updates and Season Expectations

Real Kashmir will miss their former captain, Mohammad Inam, who has joined Punjab FC in the ISL, but they have strengthened their attack with the addition of experienced striker Marcus Joseph and several talented domestic players. Defender N. Rohen Singh remarked, "We have prepared thoroughly for this match and are hopeful for a victory." With Real Kashmir looking to build on last season's success and Nagaland United embarking on a new journey, the opening match promises to be an exciting start to the 2026–27 Indian Football League.
