Kiaan Shah Triumphs at Meco Meritus Cup, Secures Rotax Senior Title
Kiaan Shah's Stellar Performance in Bengaluru
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India] - On May 11, Kiaan Shah from Mumbai showcased his remarkable talent in the racing arena by clinching the Rotax Senior title at the esteemed Meco Meritus Cup held in Bengaluru.
The 15-year-old racer, fresh off a podium finish at the RMC Asia Trophy in Thailand, dominated the competition by winning Race 1 and securing second place in Race 2, thus leading the scoreboard after the first round of the Meritus Cup, as reported in a recent announcement.
Shah's victory marked a significant achievement for Rayo Racing, with fellow racer Atharva Hemani, also from Mumbai, winning the Rotax Micro title, while Aarav Sureka finished in third place.
The champions earned complimentary entries for all rounds of the FMSCI National Karting Championship.
National Champion Aditya Patnaik, who heads Rayo Racing, praised Kiaan's performance, stating, “Kiaan raced exceptionally well, and we are thrilled with his development. The micro racers displayed remarkable maturity and composure to secure their victories.”
Saurav Bandopadhyay, CEO of Rayo Racing, noted, “We have dedicated considerable time to enhancing the psychological and mental aspects of our racers, and the results are beginning to show.”
In Race 1, Kiaan advanced from third to second position right at the start. By the fourth corner, he executed a brilliant maneuver to take the lead from Misra, with MSport's Vengatesan following closely behind. Kiaan quickly established a significant lead, ultimately winning the race with ease.
During Race 2, Kiaan again started from third and moved up to second. However, he was bumped from behind at corner 2, causing him to lose valuable ground. Despite his efforts, he finished in second place, with Misra taking the win and Vengatesan finishing third.
The Micro Race 1 experienced a chaotic pile-up at the first corner, affecting nearly the entire field. Rayo Racing's Aarav Sureka and Atharva Hemani, who started further back, also veered off track but managed to avoid collisions.
Both racers rejoined the front pack, with Atharva maintaining a strong lead throughout the race, while Aarav faced several challenges from Gurgaon’s Saakhir Nagpal of Peregrine Racing. Aarav successfully defended his position to finish second, while Atharva claimed victory.
In Race 2 of the Micro, Atharva, competing in only his second Rotax event, made an impressive start from sixth position and quickly took the lead by the second corner. He held onto the lead for over half the race but eventually fell to sixth after a series of attacks. Aarav climbed to third at one point but ultimately finished fourth. The top three positions were secured by Peregrine Racing's Yeshvin Vinayak (Chennai), Zidaan Anees (Bengaluru), and Nagpal.
