Kevin De Bruyne Announces Departure from Manchester City After Successful Tenure
Kevin De Bruyne's Emotional Farewell to Manchester City
Kevin De Bruyne has officially declared his intention to part ways with Manchester City, revealing that these are his 'final months' with the Premier League champions. The 33-year-old Belgian midfielder shared this heartfelt announcement through his social media platforms on Friday.
In his post, De Bruyne expressed, 'Writing this is not easy, but as athletes, we all understand that this moment eventually arrives. That moment is now.'
Having joined City from Wolfsburg in 2015 for approximately $71 million, De Bruyne has achieved remarkable success, securing every significant title with the club, including six Premier League championships and the Champions League trophy.
Overall, he has amassed 14 major trophies during his time at City, solidifying his status as one of the Premier League's all-time greats.
'This city. This club. These people... have given me EVERYTHING. I had no option but to reciprocate with EVERYTHING! And look what we achieved — we won EVERYTHING,' he stated. 'Whether we like it or not, it’s time to bid farewell.' De Bruyne did not clarify whether he would participate in the Club World Cup, scheduled for June and July in the United States.
His post also did not indicate his next destination.
With 118 assists in the Premier League, De Bruyne ranks second on the all-time list, trailing only Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, who has 162 assists. Notably, De Bruyne reached this milestone in just 280 matches, compared to Giggs' 632 appearances.
Although De Bruyne will be remembered as one of City's finest players, he could have spent a significant part of his career at Chelsea after moving from Belgian club Genk in 2012. However, after only two league starts, he became disillusioned and transferred to Wolfsburg in 2014, where he rejuvenated his career and ultimately became City's record signing.
