In a significant milestone during the WTC Final 2025, Maharaj claimed his 200th Test wicket by dismissing Alex Carey. This victory marked South Africa's first ICC title in 27 years, with their last triumph occurring in the 1998 Wills International Cup (previously known as the Champions Trophy).

Australia set a first-innings total of 212, with notable contributions from Steve Smith (66) and Beau Webster (72), while Kagiso Rabada showcased his skills with a remarkable five-wicket haul.
