South Africa Triumphs in WTC Final 2025
Keshav Maharaj, the South African spinner, expressed his deep emotions following his team's remarkable victory in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025, where they defeated Australia by five wickets.
The left-arm spinner conveyed his gratitude, describing it as a privilege to raise the prestigious trophy for his country. He emphasized the team's thankfulness and national pride, acknowledging the support they received. Maharaj viewed this achievement as merely the beginning, a stepping stone towards even greater accomplishments.
Statements from Maharaj Post-WTC Victory
“It's a special moment, and I feel honored to lift the cup for everyone here and back home. This victory reflects the unity of our nation over the past five days. We are immensely grateful, both as a team and as a proud country,” Maharaj stated after the WTC win.
“I believe the emotions would have motivated me positively had I batted. To the fans back home, thank you for your unwavering support; we have remained resilient through challenges. We honor those who paved the way for us, and may this victory lead to even greater achievements,”
In a significant milestone during the WTC Final 2025, Maharaj claimed his 200th Test wicket by dismissing Alex Carey. This victory marked South Africa's first ICC title in 27 years, with their last triumph occurring in the 1998 Wills International Cup (previously known as the Champions Trophy).
Australia set a first-innings total of 212, with notable contributions from Steve Smith (66) and Beau Webster (72), while Kagiso Rabada showcased his skills with a remarkable five-wicket haul. South Africa struggled in their first innings, bowled out for just 138, largely due to Pat Cummins' six-wicket performance.
In their second innings, Australia managed to score 207 runs, with Mitchell Starc contributing significantly with 58 runs. Chasing a target of 282, South Africa was led by Aiden Markram's impressive 136 runs, supported by Temba Bavuma's steady 66, ultimately securing a historic five-wicket victory.
