Kerala Blasters Confirm ISL Participation

New Delhi: Kerala Blasters FC has officially announced their involvement in the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) 2026, which is set to kick off on February 14, as confirmed by the club on Wednesday.

The future of the league had been uncertain following a breakdown in negotiations between Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) regarding the renewal of the Master Rights Agreement (MRA). FSDL had hesitated to commence the 2025-26 season on schedule due to the MRA's expiration on December 8, 2025, which would occur midway through the league, leaving the renewal status unclear.

The decision by the ISL club follows thorough discussions with the AIFF and other relevant stakeholders. The club expressed gratitude to the sports ministry for its mediation and acknowledged the various concerns raised regarding the situation.

The club stated, “This decision has been made after extensive discussions with the All India Football Federation and associated stakeholders. We appreciate the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Hon. Sports Minister for their intervention and mediation. We recognize that there will be many questions and concerns, and we are actively working to address and clarify these issues ourselves.”

Recognizing the significant transformations in Indian football, the club committed to working towards the betterment of sports in the nation.

“Indian football is experiencing a profound transformation and will face new economic, regulatory, and sporting realities. The Blasters will always prioritize the protection of our present while collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure a secure future.”

The club plans to share more information through appropriate channels soon, once they have solidified their strategy and clarified certain outstanding issues.

Previously, sports minister Mandaviya highlighted that all 14 clubs have agreed to participate in this year's ISL, with further details regarding tournament logistics, including match platforms and venues, to be announced. Teams will need to regroup and prepare for the upcoming season once these details are finalized.
