Karun Nair, the middle-order batsman for India, has returned to the national team amid high expectations but has struggled to deliver in the ongoing series against England. With emerging players like B Sai Sudharsan and Dhruv Jurel making their mark, Nair felt the pressure to excel during the third Test at Lord's.

In his first innings, Nair managed to score 40 runs off 62 balls, which offered a glimmer of hope. However, his performance in the second innings was disappointing, as he was dismissed for just 14 runs off 33 balls. He fell victim to an LBW decision by Brydon Carse after misjudging the delivery, leaving fans and analysts puzzled.

Former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik criticized Nair's decision-making, calling it a 'pretty ordinary leave' and highlighting his inability to convert starts into significant scores. Michael Atherton, the former England captain, echoed this sentiment, labeling Nair's shot selection as a 'bizarre decision' and suggesting that a player of his caliber should have exercised better judgment under pressure.

Karthik remarked, 'He was looking solid, but the ball just came straight. I don't know what he was thinking. It was a pretty ordinary leave, and it’s a crucial wicket for England.' Atherton added, 'It’s a very strange leave, especially considering the angle from which Carse was bowling.'

Anil Kumble, the legendary spinner, referred to Nair's dismissal as a 'brain fade moment,' indicating that this lapse not only affected Nair but also provided England with a crucial advantage at a key point in the match.

Kumble noted, 'India had a great chance to restrict England to 192. Once Nair and Shubman Gill were out, it shifted the advantage to England. Nair had done the hard work, and it’s unfortunate that it came down to a brain fade.'

As opportunities diminish, Karun Nair must step up his game to secure his position in India's Test squad, especially with eager young talent waiting for their chance.
