Court Ruling on Stampede Incident
The Karnataka High Court has granted significant relief to the State Cricket Association regarding the stampede incident that occurred at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. In a ruling delivered on Friday, the court instructed authorities not to take any punitive actions against the officials of the cricket association.
Officials from the State Cricket Association had approached the High Court seeking the cancellation of the FIR filed against them in connection with the stampede. The incident took place on June 4, during a celebration for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after their first IPL victory. Tragically, the stampede outside the stadium resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals and left 56 others injured.
The police have registered an FIR against the RCB event management firm, DNA Entertainment Networks Private Limited, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association in this matter.
The FIR, filed in Kannada, alleges that the event was conducted without adequate arrangements. It states that there were insufficient security measures in place to ensure the safe entry of fans into the stadium. The FIR names officials from the RCB franchise, DNA, and KSCA.
