Shivakumar's Optimism for RCB
Bengaluru: DK Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, expressed his belief that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will triumph in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He shared his excitement about RCB's journey to the finals.
In a media interaction, Shivakumar stated, "I am thrilled. The Bengaluru team, RCB, will secure victory in Ahmedabad. It's been a long time since they reached the finals."
He emphasized that both the Karnataka government and its citizens are eagerly anticipating RCB's first IPL trophy.
"The Karnataka government and the people are looking forward to their win. Many fans from Karnataka will be attending the match in Ahmedabad. Let's hope and pray for their success and a triumphant return..." he added.
RCB secured their spot in the finals by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 1. PBKS managed to score only 101 runs, thanks to Josh Hazlewood and Suyash Sharma, who each took three wickets. Phil Salt played a remarkable innings, scoring 56 runs off just 27 balls, leading RCB to chase down the target in a mere 10 overs.
On the other hand, PBKS reached the finals after a nail-biting victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI). MI set a challenging target of 203/6, with notable contributions from Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma, who both scored 44 runs. PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer played a pivotal role, scoring an impressive 87 runs off 41 balls, while Nehal Wadhera added 48 runs off 29 balls, guiding their team to victory with an over to spare.
The finals between RCB and PBKS are scheduled for June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, starting at 7:30 PM. In a separate political discussion, Shivakumar addressed actor Kamal Haasan's comments regarding the Kannada language.
Shivakumar remarked that the people of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu share a friendly relationship and preferred not to delve into the matter due to his lack of historical knowledge on the topic.
"Let's avoid politicizing this issue. We are neighbors and must collaborate and coexist. Our water resources flow to Tamil Nadu, and people from Tamil Nadu visit us. We are not adversaries; we are friends... I prefer not to comment further as I am not well-versed in the history of this issue," he concluded.
