India's Golfing Challenge in Morocco

As Anirban Lahiri and Gaganjeet Bhullar lead the Indian contingent at the International Series Morocco, emerging talent Karandeep Kochhar is making waves of his own. The 26-year-old golfer arrives in Rabat with impressive momentum, having secured three top-10 finishes in just five starts on the Asian Tour this season.

Kochhar's Recent Achievements

This week's competition features ten Indian players, including global icons like Sergio Garcia and Bubba Watson. Kochhar's recent performance includes a tied-ninth finish at the Am Green IGPL Bharath Classic, following a tied-fifth at the International Series Japan and a fourth-place finish at the Philippine Golf Championship. His success is underscored by a victory at the Egypt Golf Series Red Sea Open on the Asian Development Tour. Reflecting on his season, Kochhar expressed satisfaction with his progress, stating, "I've been playing really well this year. With three top-10 finishes in five events, it's definitely encouraging. Even in my other outings, I felt solid, despite a poor Sunday in New Zealand and not my best in Singapore, I was pleased to make the cut."

Facing a Challenging Schedule

Kochhar's consistency has been put to the test over the past three weeks as he navigated Morocco's unique golfing landscape, transitioning from the Asian Development Tour to the Asian Tour and now to the International Series Morocco presented by Visit Morocco. He admitted that this stretch has been physically taxing, especially with the demanding coastal conditions at Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort. "The last two weeks were tough due to the windy course, which drains a lot of energy," he noted. "I'm feeling a bit tired, but I remind myself of the significance of this tournament, which could be life-changing. I plan to give it my all before taking a long break after this week."

Leading the Indian Golf Contingent

Kochhar's performances have positioned him as the top Indian player in events organized in collaboration with the Asian Tour and the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL), a role he takes pride in. "It's fantastic to see the talent on the IGPL Tour and in Indian golf. I'm grateful to have performed well and to be recognized as the top Indian player recently. While I aim for high overall finishes, I also strive to be the best Indian finisher each week," he shared.

Learning from Anirban Lahiri

This week’s International Series also offers Kochhar the chance to learn from Indian golf legend Anirban Lahiri. The two engaged in a friendly seven-hole match before the tournament commenced. "Aryan and I were two down with two holes left, but I birdied the last two to halve the match, which was satisfying," Kochhar recounted. He appreciates the opportunity to learn from Lahiri, stating, "Having Anirban here is incredible. His experience from the PGA Tour and LIV Golf is invaluable. He represents Indian golf globally and serves as a remarkable role model, both as a player and a person. We’re all thrilled to have him here, and I hope to play more rounds with him this week."
