Cricketing icon Kapil Dev has stressed the significance of allowing time for 14-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi, whose skills have come to light during the ongoing 18th season of the Indian Premier League.
The Sawai Mansingh Stadium witnessed an impressive display from the young left-handed batsman during a thrilling match against the Gujarat Titans, where the Rajasthan Royals secured an eight-wicket victory.
However, following his remarkable performance, Suryavanshi faced a setback, scoring a duck in just two balls against the Mumbai Indians at the same venue.
Kapil Dev's Insights on Suryavanshi's Potential
Kapil Dev, who led India to its 1983 World Cup triumph, acknowledged the teenager's promising talent, originating from Bihar, but emphasized that success requires time.
"It's essential to give him time and not rush his development. He has the talent and capability, but patience is key," the legendary cricketer remarked to the media.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Record-Breaking Performance
Suryavanshi played a pivotal role in helping Rajasthan chase down a challenging target of 210 runs set by Gujarat, dismantling their bowling attack, which has 694 international caps among its players.
He made headlines by scoring his first IPL century in just 35 balls, marking the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history, and the second overall, following Chris Gayle's 30-ball century in 2013.
At just 14 years and 32 days old, he became the youngest player to achieve a century in T20 cricket, surpassing Yusuf Pathan's previous record of a 37-ball century against the Mumbai Indians in 2010.
During his explosive innings, Suryavanshi hit 11 sixes, tying the record for the most sixes by an Indian in a single IPL inning, a feat previously accomplished by Murali Vijay.
Setback After Success
Despite his earlier success, Suryavanshi's momentum was halted when he misplayed a delivery from Deepak Chahar, leading to his dismissal.
Following his exit, the Rajasthan Royals struggled, collapsing to a total of 117 runs, which ultimately ended their playoff hopes.
