Indian cricket icon and former captain Kapil Dev expressed his admiration for Virat Kohli's remarkable feat of scoring 15,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He commended Kohli's skill, consistency, and self-belief.

Recognizing Kohli's Unique Talent

In an interview, Kapil highlighted that Kohli's accomplishment reflects his extraordinary talent and impressive batting average. He stated, "Kohli is a special talent. Few players maintain an average above 60, which is commendable. His passion for cricket is evident, and while I am unsure why he stepped away from Test cricket, he must have his reasons for continuing to excel at this level."

What Makes Kohli Stand Out

When asked about Kohli's distinction among cricket legends, particularly in ODIs, Kapil emphasized the importance of Kohli's self-confidence. He remarked, "Kohli possesses the ability and believes in himself, which is crucial for his success."

Record-Breaking Performance

In the recent ODI against the West Indies, Kohli played a pivotal role in India's successful chase of 296 runs, scoring an impressive 139 runs off just 88 balls, featuring 10 fours and nine sixes, with a strike rate of 157.95.

The 37-year-old showcased his exceptional hitting skills while maintaining composure, a hallmark of his ODI career filled with successful run chases and numerous records.

Kohli's 86th international century also marked his entry into the elite club of players with over 15,000 runs in ODIs, making him the second player after Sachin Tendulkar to achieve this milestone.

Kohli's Impressive Statistics

In his 315 ODIs and 303 innings, Kohli has amassed 15,080 runs at an average of 59.13, including 55 centuries and 79 fifties, with a highest score of 183.

He has now equaled Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most centuries in List-A cricket, with both players having 60 centuries each.

Additionally, Kohli has matched Tendulkar's record of 42 centuries for the most ODI tons in home conditions.

He is also the first cricketer to score 7,000 runs in ODIs on home soil, surpassing Tendulkar's 6,976 runs in 164 matches.

Support for Indian Teams at the Asian Games

Kapil Dev extended his best wishes to the Indian cricket teams as they prepare for the Asian Games, with the women's team defending their gold medal and the men's team striving to maintain their top position.

The men's team, led by Shreyas Iyer, has advanced to the semi-finals after their quarter-final match against Afghanistan was canceled due to rain.

"I wish them all the luck. The performance of both the boys and girls is commendable. Every medal contributes significantly to the country," he stated.

Kapil also noted the importance of cricket's role in enhancing India's medal tally at multi-sport events, expressing his hope for the sport's continued growth.
