Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian cricketer and current coach, along with batter Rishabh Pant and several teammates from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), have extended their congratulations to Kane Williamson of New Zealand as he concludes his illustrious international cricket career.
Williamson announced his retirement on Friday, marking the end of a 16-year journey filled with numerous records and achievements. Over his extensive career, he participated in 378 international matches, setting multiple batting records and earning widespread respect in the cricketing community.

In a heartfelt message on X, Gambhir described Williamson as a blend of grace, talent, and spirit, stating, "Grace + Talent + Spirit = Kane Williamson."

Rishabh Pant also praised Williamson, calling him a symbol of "class and grace" and congratulated him on his successful career.
Former SRH teammates, including Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, and World Cup champion Yuvraj Singh, also shared their admiration for Williamson, highlighting his legacy and humility.
Rashid referred to him as "one of the calmest minds, finest players, and greatest gentlemen the game has ever seen," expressing his honor in having played alongside him.
Williamson's Career Achievements
At 35, Williamson retires as New Zealand's leading international run-scorer, amassing 19,346 runs, which includes 48 centuries and six double-centuries, as reported by the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) website. He holds the record for the most Test runs for New Zealand, totaling 9,515 runs with 33 centuries.
In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he ranks fourth in runs scored (7,256) and centuries (14), while in T20 Internationals, he stands second with 2,575 runs.
Williamson also boasts the highest Test batting average for New Zealand at 54.06, the second highest ODI average at 48.69, and the third highest T20I average at 33.
Leadership and Captaincy
Williamson's leadership was highly regarded, as he captained the BlackCaps across all formats during a successful period from 2016 to 2024, leading the team to two ICC World Cup Finals and winning the inaugural ICC World Test Championship in 2021.
He captained New Zealand in 40 Tests, achieving 22 wins, and in 91 ODIs, securing 46 victories. He holds the record for the most T20I wins by a New Zealand captain with 39 wins in 75 matches.
Individual Honors and IPL Success
Williamson's accolades include being named the 2019 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Player of the Tournament and the 2019 ICC Test Player of the Year. He also became the fastest player to score centuries against all major Test-playing nations.
In the Indian Premier League, his standout season was in 2018 with SRH, where he was the tournament's top run-scorer with 735 runs in 17 matches.
With his retirement, Williamson will not participate in the ongoing Test series in England, with a replacement to be announced by New Zealand Cricket.
