Exciting Squash Action Awaits at the JSW Indian Open

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 17: The highly anticipated second edition of the JSW Indian Open is set to commence tomorrow at the renowned CCI Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, promising five days of intense squash competition.

This tournament showcases a robust lineup of India's elite players alongside international competitors, featuring 30 matches across both men's and women's categories as athletes vie for PSA ranking points and the prestigious title.

Sanctioned by the Professional Squash Association (PSA) and organized under the auspices of the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI), the JSW Indian Open is classified as a PSA Copper event, offering equal prize money for both genders. This event is increasingly recognized as a vital platform for Indian players to face world-class opponents on home turf, providing essential competitive experience.

All eyes will be on the top seed and defending champion, Anahat Singh, who returns after a remarkable year on the PSA Tour. She will be joined by prominent Indian players such as Ramit Tandon, Veer Chotrani, Abhay Singh, and seasoned veteran Joshna Chinappa, all eager to impress the local audience.

The tournament also boasts a formidable international lineup, including Yahya Elnawasnay, Nadien Elhammam, and Enora Villard, promising thrilling matchups throughout the week.

Prior to the tournament, Anahat Singh and Ramit Tandon expressed their excitement about the event and the expanding opportunities for Indian squash players to compete domestically.

Ramit Tandon remarked on the significance of the tournament, stating, “Players truly appreciate coming to India due to its rich culture and warm hospitality. Last year, many on the PSA Tour mentioned this event as one of the highlights of their season. The facilities are outstanding, and competing at home adds a unique pressure with friends, family, and fans in attendance. The JSW Indian Open allows Indian players to challenge themselves against the best and provides younger athletes a chance to observe and learn.”

Looking ahead, Anahat Singh shared, “I have undergone rigorous training leading up to this tournament, which has sharpened my focus on various aspects of my game. My goal is to maintain consistency in my performance and approach each match with determination. Competing in front of Indian fans is always a special experience, and I am excited to give my all at the JSW Indian Open. With squash being included in the upcoming Olympic Games, events like this are crucial as we strive towards our larger objectives.”

As squash prepares for its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, tournaments like the JSW Indian Open are essential in enhancing the sport's competitive landscape in India, offering players valuable chances to earn ranking points and gain international visibility.

The tournament kicks off on March 18 with the first round matches in both men's and women's categories. The second round and quarter-finals are scheduled for March 19 and March 20, respectively, leading up to the semifinals on March 21. The finals will take place on Sunday, March 22.
