Josh Hazlewood Optimistic About Recovery Ahead of T20 World Cup
Hazlewood Shares Positive Update on Rehabilitation
Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has provided an encouraging update regarding his rehabilitation, indicating that his recovery is progressing well after he opted for additional weeks off following the Test matches. Hazlewood has been focusing on his bowling technique, running, and strength training, expressing optimism about returning to form. He was sidelined from the Ashes due to a hamstring injury and subsequently faced an Achilles issue during his recovery phase. As a result, he will not participate in the later rounds of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL), where he is listed as a supplementary player for the Sydney Sixers.
Navigating Multiple Injuries
Hazlewood reflected on the challenges posed by his consecutive injuries this season, describing it as a situation where 'one issue resolves, and another arises.' He acknowledged that managing his physical condition has been difficult, particularly when resuming activity after a break. He stated, 'Sometimes, when one thing goes, another resurfaces. The ankle issue was something I had been managing for years, and it eventually flared up. When you restart, your body sometimes struggles with the transition from rest to activity.'
Preparation for the T20 World Cup
Hazlewood has been included in Australia's squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, contingent upon passing fitness evaluations. With Mitchell Starc retiring from T20 International cricket, Hazlewood is expected to play a crucial role in leading the pace attack alongside Pat Cummins. The T20 World Cup is set to commence on February 7, with Australia's first match scheduled for February 11, 2026, against Ireland in Colombo, followed by a game against Zimbabwe on February 13.
