In the ongoing T20 Blast tournament in England, Jonny Bairstow showcased his aggressive batting skills, scoring a remarkable century off just 49 balls. Playing for Yorkshire, he amassed 116 runs from 54 deliveries, marking a standout performance. Interestingly, Bairstow achieved this milestone on the same day that his teammate Joe Root scored a century against India in the third Test match, where Root made 104 runs.


Focusing on Bairstow's innings, an impressive 92 of his 116 runs came from boundaries.


Yorkshire's Strong Start


Yorkshire batted first, setting a target of 236 runs after losing six wickets in their 20 overs. Bairstow was expected to deliver a significant innings, and he did not disappoint. Despite a shaky start, with captain David Malan dismissed for just one run, Bairstow formed a crucial partnership with Will Luxton, adding 167 runs for the second wicket. Both players executed some spectacular shots during their partnership.


While Bairstow celebrated his century, Luxton also contributed significantly with an unbeaten 90 runs, hitting five fours and seven sixes. Abdullah Shafique added 14 runs to the total. On the bowling side, Chris Green from Lancashire took four wickets for 34 runs in his four overs.


In response, Lancashire managed to score 217 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. Jos Buttler led the chase with 55 runs but could not secure victory for his team. Phil Salt contributed 38 runs, while Ashton Turner added 33 runs. For Yorkshire, Jordan Thompson took two wickets for 37 runs in four overs.

With this win, Yorkshire has recorded four victories out of 11 matches, facing defeat in seven, placing them eighth in the North Group with 16 points. In contrast, Lancashire has won seven out of their 11 matches, suffering four losses, and currently holds second place in the same group with 28 points.
