John Cena's Future at Wrestlemania 42: No In-Ring Return Confirmed
John Cena's Status for Wrestlemania 42
Triple H has officially stated that John Cena will not participate in any matches at Wrestlemania 42. Cena has repeatedly expressed his intention to retire from in-ring competition, opting instead to make appearances in formal attire. During a conversation with Joe Tessitore on WWE's official platform, Triple H remarked, "I genuinely believe in his resolve to never wrestle again. For John, it was never about him; it was about giving back to the industry and ensuring he left it in a better state than he found it." He further emphasized that Cena's satisfaction with his career's conclusion was paramount.
Cena's last match took place on December 13, where he was defeated by Gunther at Saturday Night's Main Event. Since then, he has not appeared on WWE television. However, he is scheduled to make appearances on both nights of Wrestlemania 42.
John Cena's Farewell Tour
John Cena's farewell tour spanned an entire year, culminating in his retirement announcement at Money in the Bank 2024. He made a return during Raw's Netflix debut and participated in the Royal Rumble, where he was the final competitor eliminated. Cena triumphed in the Elimination Chamber match, securing a main event spot at Wrestlemania 41, where he claimed a world title for the 17th time by defeating Cody Rhodes. He later relinquished the title back to Rhodes at SummerSlam in August and faced a significant loss against Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza.
During his farewell tour, Cena achieved Grand Slam Champion status by winning the Intercontinental Championship from Dominik Mysterio, only to lose it back to him at Survivor Series. His final match against Gunther marked a significant moment, as it was the first time in two decades that Cena tapped out to lose.
