Jofra Archer Set to Make Test Comeback at Lord's
Archer Returns to England's Squad
Jofra Archer, the seasoned fast bowler, joined the England team ahead of the second Test at Edgbaston last week but did not get the opportunity to participate in that match. However, he has been included in the playing XI for the upcoming third Test, which is scheduled to begin on Thursday, July 10, at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground.
This match marks Archer's first Test appearance since February 2021. The 30-year-old has played a total of 13 Tests, claiming 32 wickets at an average of 31.05. The conditions at Lord's are expected to favor seam bowlers, making Archer's return timely for England, especially after their bowlers conceded runs at an alarming rate of 5.14 per over during the second innings of the Edgbaston Test.
Ben Stokes, the captain of England, expressed his excitement about Archer's inclusion in the team. He commended Archer for his perseverance in overcoming a series of injuries throughout his career.
Stokes' Comments Ahead of the Match
"It's incredibly exciting. This is a significant moment for English fans and for Jofra himself. His journey back has been long, and the way he has coped with his injuries is truly admirable. His determination to return to the field and play cricket consistently is commendable,"
"Having him back in the squad was thrilling, but now that he is officially in the playing eleven, it’s a fantastic day for the team. Jofra should feel proud of his comeback after facing significant injury challenges," Stokes added.
England announced their playing eleven a day before the third Test. Josh Tongue, who has been the leading wicket-taker for England in the five-match series, has been replaced by Archer, while Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse remain in the lineup. The rest of the squad remains unchanged.
