Jofra Archer Returns to England's Squad for Crucial Test Against India

Archer's Comeback in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
London: Jofra Archer has been included in England's lineup for the third Test of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, aiming to recover from a significant loss at Edgbaston. The Sussex fast bowler takes the place of Josh Tongue for the match at Lord’s, which kicks off on Thursday, July 10.
The series stands at 1-1 after India's impressive 336-run win at Edgbaston on Sunday.
Archer has participated in 13 Tests for England, claiming 42 wickets with an average of 31.04. He recently made his return to the Test squad for the first time since February 2021, having been selected for the second Test against India.
Due to a recurring elbow injury and a stress fracture in his back, Archer had been largely absent from Test matches since early 2021.
Following England's defeat to India at Edgbaston, there are numerous uncertainties surrounding the team. India maintained control throughout the five-day match, overpowering both the English batting and bowling units.
With the pitch at Lord’s expected to differ from those at Headingley and Edgbaston, Archer's presence could be crucial for the team led by Ben Stokes.
Josh Tongue, 27, who has been the leading wicket-taker in the series with 11 wickets, makes way for Archer and may feel unfortunate to be dropped.
Gus Atkinson, who was added to the squad ahead of the third Test, will not play as he has not returned since suffering a hamstring injury during a one-off Test against Zimbabwe in May.
England Playing XI:
Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (C), Jamie Smith (WK), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Shoaib Bashir.
