On Saturday, England's Joe Root surpassed Sri Lankan cricketing great Sanath Jayasuriya, becoming the ninth-highest run-scorer in international cricket history.


Root reached this milestone during the first Test match against India held in Leeds.


In his innings, he managed to score 28 runs off 58 balls, hitting two boundaries. He was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah for the tenth time in 25 innings, maintaining an average of 29 against the bowler.


Root Joins Elite Group of Run-Scorers

Throughout his career, Root has participated in 366 international matches, accumulating a total of 21,053 runs across 479 innings, boasting an impressive average of 49.30. His record includes 54 centuries and 112 half-centuries, with a personal best of 262 runs.
