Joe Root Surpasses Legends to Become Second All-Time Test Run-Scorer

On July 25, England's Joe Root reached a significant milestone by becoming the second-highest run-scorer in Test cricket history. This achievement came during his remarkable innings of 150 runs in the fourth Test match against India in Manchester.

Root surpassed the records of Indian cricket legend Rahul Dravid and South African great Jacques Kallis after scoring his 31st run. He then overtook Australian icon Ricky Ponting's total after reaching 120 runs, solidifying his position as the second all-time run-scorer.

This century marked Root's 38th in Test cricket, placing England in a strong position in the match. By the end of day three, England had amassed 544 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, leading India by 186 runs after their first innings total of 358. A victory in this Test would secure a 3-1 series lead for England.

Throughout his innings, Root formed crucial partnerships, including a 144-run collaboration with Ollie Pope and a 142-run partnership with Ben Stokes. He was eventually dismissed by Stokes in the final session of the day.
