Joe Root Becomes England's All-Time Leading ODI Run-Scorer

Historic Achievement for Joe Root
Cardiff [UK], June 2: Joe Root has solidified his legacy in English cricket by becoming the nation's top run-scorer in One Day Internationals, surpassing the previous record held by Eoin Morgan. He now holds the distinction of having the highest runs in both Test and ODI formats for England.
In the second ODI against the West Indies, Root delivered an outstanding performance, scoring an unbeaten 166 runs off 139 balls, which included 21 fours and 2 sixes. His efforts led England to a six-wicket victory, successfully chasing down a daunting target of 309 runs in just 48.5 overs. This win also secured the series for England at 2-0, with one match remaining.
With this innings, Root's ODI run total reached 7,082, making him the first English player to surpass the 7,000-run milestone in ODIs. He has now accumulated 18 centuries and 42 half-centuries in this format.
Root came to bat when England was in a precarious position at 2/2, showcasing his poise under pressure. He formed a vital 85-run partnership with Harry Brook, who scored a commendable 47 runs before getting out. Will Jacks also contributed with a valuable 49 runs, but it was Root who remained steady, guiding the team to victory.
Earlier, the West Indies set a challenging total of 308, bolstered by a century from Keacy Carty (103 off 105 balls) and a solid 78 from captain Shai Hope.
This match also marked a promising start for Harry Brook as captain, as England clinched the series with a game to spare. His performance with both bat and leadership has shown great potential for the future.
As the final ODI approaches, England will be looking to complete a clean sweep.
