Joe Root's Record-Breaking Performance
England's formidable batsman Joe Root has made headlines at the iconic Lord's cricket ground, setting multiple records. By the end of the first day of the third Test against India, he remained unbeaten at 99 runs. If he manages to secure a century on Friday, he will surpass both Australia's Steve Smith and India's legendary Rahul Dravid, entering the top five for the most Test centuries.
Root has also established a new record for the most runs scored across all formats at Lord's, amassing a remarkable 2,526 runs in 33 matches at this historic venue, surpassing Graham Gooch's previous record of 2,513 runs.
The former England captain has made history by becoming the only batsman to score 3,000 runs in Tests against India. In 33 Tests against India, he has accumulated 3,054 runs, including 10 centuries. This achievement places him alongside legends Gary Sobers and Sachin Tendulkar for scoring over 3,000 runs in non-Ashes Test rivalries.
As Root stands firm at one end during the Lord's Test, he is just one run away from his 37th Test century. Achieving this will elevate him past Steve Smith and Rahul Dravid in the all-time Test century rankings.
This marks Root's 103rd score of 50 or more in Tests. He has successfully converted 36 of these into centuries and has made 67 half-centuries. In terms of the most fifties in Test cricket, he now trails only Sachin Tendulkar, who has 119 such innings. Both Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting have also reached the milestone of 103 scores of 50 or more in Tests.
If Joe Root manages to score his first run on the second day, he will equal Hashim Amla's record with 55 international centuries.
