Jayden Seales Fined for Code of Conduct Breach During Australia Test

West Indies Bowler Penalized for Misconduct

Jayden Seales, the fast bowler from the West Indies, has been penalized 15% of his match fee and received one demerit point for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test match against Australia in Bridgetown on Wednesday, according to the ICC.

The breach was identified under Article 2.5 of the ICC Code, which addresses the use of language, gestures, or actions that could belittle or provoke an aggressive response from a batter following their dismissal in an international match.

This incident marks Seales' second offense within a 24-month timeframe, resulting in a total of two demerit points added to his disciplinary record, as stated by the ICC.

Details of the Incident

The incident took place during the 55th over of Australia's innings when Seales, after taking the wicket of captain Pat Cummins, made a gesture towards the pavilion.

Seales acknowledged the offense and accepted the penalty suggested by Javagal Srinath, a member of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, which eliminated the need for a formal hearing.

The charge was brought forth by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Nitin Menon, along with third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite.

Previously, Seales received a demerit point during a Test match against Bangladesh in Kingston, Jamaica, on December 3, 2024.

Level 1 violations can result in penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a maximum of 50% of a player's match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

When questioned about the incident at the end of the first day, Seales downplayed it, stating, "It did not really mean anything and it was more a bit of frustration. Pat hit a couple of good shots off me and I just showed him where the dressing room was and there wasn’t really anything in it."
