On Friday, Jay Shah, the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), was awarded the CNN-News18 Indian of the Year 2025 in the Outstanding Achievement category. This accolade acknowledges his significant influence in shaping the future of cricket on a global scale. Shah's leadership comes at a pivotal moment as the sport undergoes rapid changes. In his acceptance speech, Jay Shah dedicated the award to Harmanpreet Kaur, along with former cricketers Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj, who are prominent figures in Indian women's cricket. He emphasized the major initiatives undertaken by the BCCI during his time as honorary secretary, highlighting the introduction of the WPL and achieving pay parity for women's teams as his proudest accomplishments. Shah remarked, "Harman, Jhulan di, and Mithali are here. I would like to dedicate this award to all of you. I want to take you all back to the time before December 1 last year, when I began my tenure as ICC chairman. From October 23, 2019, until then, we made many decisions and achieved several milestones. We strengthened domestic structures, achieved pay parity, and introduced the WPL. The results are evident for everyone to see. I want to congratulate Harman and the entire team for winning our hearts and competing with our boys to win ICC titles."
