Historic Achievement for Indian Soft Tennis

Jay Meena, an Indian soft tennis player, has made history by winning the nation's inaugural medal in the sport at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026. He secured a bronze in the men's singles event, dedicating his achievement to his coaches, the Amateur Soft Tennis Federation of India (ASTFI), the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and the government.

Meena's journey concluded in the semi-finals, where he faced Japan's Takuya Kurosaka, losing with a score of 3-5, 1-4, 1-4, 4-1, 6-4, 1-4. Despite dropping the first three sets, he managed to win the fourth and fifth sets, narrowing the gap to 2-3 before Kurosaka clinched the sixth set.

Reflecting on his experience, Meena described it as a 'rollercoaster,' highlighting the emotional ups and downs throughout the Games. He recalled a heartbreaking loss in the quarter-finals against Indonesia and another missed opportunity in mixed doubles, but expressed immense joy in ultimately winning the bronze.

He noted the lack of Indian cuisine options and suggested that having an Indian chef accompany the team would greatly improve their food experience.
