Jasprit Bumrah Sets Unwanted Record in India's Struggling Test Against England
India Faces Defeat in Fourth Test Against England
In the ongoing fourth Test match against England, Team India finds itself in a precarious position, facing the likelihood of defeat and losing the series. India, needing a win to keep their series hopes alive, initially scored 358 runs in their first innings. They seemed poised for a larger total at 314/5 but faltered as the lower order collapsed.
Key contributions came from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, and Rishabh Pant, each scoring fifties, while England's Ben Stokes claimed five wickets.
England responded strongly, amassing a staggering 669 runs in their first innings, establishing a commanding lead of 311 runs. Joe Root and Stokes were the standout performers, scoring 150 and 141 runs, respectively, with additional support from Zak Crawley (84), Ben Duckett (94), and Ollie Pope (71).
With nearly two days left in the match, India must deliver an extraordinary performance to avert a significant defeat.
Jasprit Bumrah's Unfortunate Milestone
A significant factor in India's struggles has been the underwhelming performance of their leading pacer, Jasprit Bumrah. Throughout the first innings, Bumrah appeared far from his usual self, leading to an unfortunate personal record.
For the first time in his Test career, Bumrah conceded over 100 runs in a single innings, achieving this milestone during his 48th Test and 91st innings. His previous highest was 99 runs, which he allowed against Australia in Melbourne last year.
In the current Test, Bumrah gave away 112 runs in 33 overs while taking two wickets. This marks the first occasion since 2017 that he has conceded 100 or more runs in a red-ball match.
This is the first time Jasprit Bumrah conceded 100-plus runs in a Test innings. The previous highest he conceded was 99 runs in 28.4 overs (picking up 4 wickets) against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25.#ENGvIND

Jasprit Bumrah concedes 100 runs in an innings for the first time in his Test career (91* innings).
It is only the 6th such instance across his entire First-Class career (137 innings) and a first since the Gujarat-Jharkhand Ranji Trophy semifinal in Jan 2017. #INDvENG
