Bumrah Set to Return for Sri Lanka Tests

New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah, the leading fast bowler for India, has received the green light to participate in the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka, as confirmed by the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Bumrah's selection was contingent upon his fitness after he sustained an impact injury during the recent ODI series against England, which forced him to miss the third ODI at Lord's.

A senior official from the BCCI, speaking anonymously, stated, "Jasprit Bumrah has successfully recovered from his injury and has passed the necessary fitness tests conducted by the COE. We are optimistic that he will be available for both matches, as he plays a crucial role in our strategy."

The series against Sri Lanka is set to commence on August 15 in Galle, with the second Test scheduled for August 23 in Colombo.

To stay in the running for a place in the World Test Championship final, India must secure victories in seven of their remaining nine Tests.

Winning the Sri Lanka series with a 2-0 scoreline is vital before they face a challenging away series against New Zealand.

Currently, India is already missing players Harshit Rana and Nitish Reddy due to hamstring and quadriceps injuries, respectively.

Additionally, Washington Sundar will not participate in the first Test due to a hamstring issue, while Akash Deep is undergoing a lengthy recovery from stress reactions in his back.
