Glasgow, July 30: Jaismine Lamboria continued to showcase India's boxing prowess at the Commonwealth Games 2026, securing a spot in the semifinals with a 4-1 split decision victory over Elise Glynn from England in the Women's 57 kg quarterfinals.
The 24-year-old boxer, who previously earned a bronze medal in the Lightweight category during the Birmingham Games, triumphed with scores from four out of five judges. Competing from the Blue corner, she received scores of 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, and 30-27, while one judge favored Glynn with a score of 29-28.
Hailing from Bhiwani, Haryana, Jaismine has an impressive track record, including a gold medal at the 2025 World Championship in Liverpool, two World Boxing Cup golds in Featherweight at Astana and New Delhi, and a bronze at the Asian Championships in Dubai in 2021.
Her victory marked a perfect day for India in the boxing quarterfinals, with six out of six wins, as she joined fellow boxers Narender (90+ kg), Ankush (80 kg), Sachin Siwach (60 kg), Arundhati Chaudhary (70 kg), and Sakshi (51 kg) in securing medals for the nation.
Narender also guaranteed a medal for India after a tough 3-2 split decision win against Samoa’s Michael Seko in the men’s 90kg+ quarterfinals.
Ankush demonstrated exceptional ring control and effective counter-attacks, winning decisively with scores of 30-26, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, and 30-27, thus advancing to the semifinals and ensuring at least a bronze medal.
Earlier, Sachin Siwach, Arundhati Chaudhary, and Sakshi also cleared their quarterfinals, ensuring medals in their respective categories.
Sakshi's performance was particularly dominant, as she won 5-0 against Northern Ireland’s Caitlin Fryers, controlling all three rounds with scores of 29-27 from four judges and 29-25 from one, aided by a point deduction against her opponent.
Arundhati Choudhary secured another medal for India by defeating Morgan Henderson from New Zealand with a 3-1 split decision in the women’s 70kg quarterfinals, showcasing tactical discipline throughout the match.
Sachin Siwach also delivered a strong performance, winning unanimously 5-0 to secure his place in the semifinals, thus guaranteeing at least a bronze medal for India.
India's medal tally at the Commonwealth Games 2026 continues to grow, with three boxers already securing medals on Tuesday.
Mandengbam Jadumani Singh ensured a bronze medal for India after defeating Mwale Mwengo in the men’s 55kg quarterfinals, marking him as the third Indian boxer to reach the semifinals that day, alongside Preeti and Priya.
Jadumani's technical prowess led to a unanimous 5-0 victory, confirming his place in the semifinals, where both losing semifinalists receive bronze medals.
Earlier, Priya advanced to the women’s 60kg semifinals with a 4-1 victory over Scotland’s Niamh Mitchell, demonstrating resilience after losing the first round on four judges' scorecards.
Priya rebounded strongly, dominating the second and third rounds with effective combinations and counter-attacks, ultimately winning with scores of 28-27 from four judges and 29-26 from one.
Meanwhile, Preeti secured a bronze medal after a commanding unanimous-decision victory over Nicole Clyde of Northern Ireland, winning all rounds decisively with scores of 30-25, 30-25, 30-26, 30-26, and 30-27, showcasing her complete control throughout the match.
