Glasgow [Scotland], July 27: Indian boxer Jadumani Singh Mandengbam has dedicated his impressive victory over Pakistan's Sumama Rehman to the brave heroes of the Kargil War, as he secured his spot in the men's 55kg quarterfinals at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

The 22-year-old showcased a commanding performance, defeating Rehman with a unanimous 5-0 decision in the Round of 16, thereby keeping India's hopes for a medal alive in this weight category.

Following the match, Jadumani expressed his respect for the Kargil heroes and committed to striving for victory in Glasgow. Notably, his win against the Pakistani boxer coincided with July 26, a day recognized in India as Kargil Vijay Diwas.

"I dedicate my victory to the Kargil heroes. Winning against Pakistan felt incredible. I aim to perform even better in the quarterfinals and bring home a Gold for India," he stated after the match.

On the same day, the nation honored the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, paying tribute to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War.

The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan lived up to expectations, with Jadumani maintaining control throughout the bout, earning unanimous support from all five judges.

Rehman entered the match after receiving a bye in the first round, while Jadumani had already made a mark with a 5-0 unanimous decision win over Scotland's Aaron Cullen in the Round of 32.

This latest victory propels the Manipuri boxer into the quarterfinals, where he will compete on Tuesday for a chance to reach the semifinals. A win in this round would guarantee him at least a bronze medal, as both losing semifinalists in Commonwealth Games boxing receive bronze.

Jadumani, who previously earned a silver medal in the 50kg category at the World Boxing Cup Finals in Noida last year, has shown remarkable form throughout the tournament with consecutive unanimous decision victories.

India's campaign in Glasgow has been fruitful across various sports, with Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu winning her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold in the women's 48kg weightlifting event. Additionally, Chanambam Rishikanta Singh secured silver in the men's 60kg category, while Raja Muthupandi contributed to India's medal tally with silver in the men's 65kg weightlifting event.

With Jadumani advancing to the quarterfinals, India's boxing team remains in strong contention for more medals at the Games.
