Victory at Roland-Garros
In an impressive performance, the third-seeded Italian team of Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori triumphed over the fourth-seeded American duo of Taylor Townsend and Evan King with a score of 6-4, 6-2, securing the mixed doubles championship at the French Open on Thursday.
This victory marks their second Grand Slam title together, following their success at the U.S. Open last year. Errani, who previously clinched Olympic gold in women's doubles alongside Jasmine Paolini at Roland-Garros, adds another trophy to her collection.
During the celebration on Court Philippe-Chatrier, the 38-year-old Errani, who was the runner-up in singles at the 2012 French Open, expressed her hopes of returning next year, saying, “Let’s see if I will see you next year, let’s hope.”
Townsend, who was the mixed doubles runner-up at the U.S. Open last year with partner Donald Young, has also secured two major titles in women's doubles. She expressed gratitude towards King for their partnership.
“We’re running it back at Wimbledon so we’re going to try it again,” Townsend added, looking forward to their next challenge.
