Ishan Kishan Shines with a Rapid Century

Before the announcement of the Indian team for the ODI series against New Zealand, wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan made headlines by scoring a remarkable century off just 33 balls for Jharkhand against Karnataka in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match held in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. This explosive century is now the second-fastest in List A cricket by an Indian, falling just one ball short of the record set by Bihar's captain, Sakibul Gani, who scored a century in 32 balls against Arunachal Pradesh on the same day.

Recently, Kishan was recalled to the Indian team for the T20 World Cup shortly after leading Jharkhand to its first Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title. His recent form has been exceptional, amassing 517 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, including a match-winning century in the final against Haryana. In the match against Karnataka, he scored 125 runs off just 39 balls, featuring seven fours and an impressive 14 sixes, achieving a strike rate of 320.51.

Karnataka won the toss and opted to field first. Jharkhand's innings got off to a shaky start, with opener Utkarsh Singh dismissed for just eight runs. Shubham Sharma followed suit, getting bowled by Shreyas Gopal for 15 runs. Shikhar Mohan contributed a solid 44 runs before being dismissed by Abhilash Shetty in the 24th over. However, Virat Singh and Kumar Kushagra steadied the innings, forming a crucial partnership of 129 runs for the fourth wicket, with Kushagra scoring 63 runs before falling to Gopal.

Singh was also dismissed soon after, having scored 88 runs off 68 balls. Kishan's explosive century helped Jharkhand finish their innings at a formidable total of 412-9 in their allotted 50 overs.
