Young Talents Shine in IPL 2026: Pujara and Yadav Praise Sooryavanshi and Arya
Emerging Stars in IPL 2026
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 24: Former Indian cricket stars Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav have shared insights on the impressive performances of Rajasthan Royals' Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Punjab Kings' Priyansh Arya in the ongoing IPL 2026.
Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old sensation, and 24-year-old Arya have consistently provided explosive starts for their teams during the Powerplay, showcasing maturity beyond their years. Sooryavanshi has amassed 254 runs in seven matches, averaging 36.29 with a striking rate of 220.87, while Arya has scored 211 runs in five innings, boasting an average of 42.20 and an impressive strike rate of 248.24.
During a segment on JioHotstar's 'Champions Waali Commentary', Pujara commended both players for their confidence and clarity at such a young age. He emphasized their understanding of the game and their ability to execute their intent without hesitation. Sooryavanshi is noted for his raw power, while Arya is praised for his timing and ball-reading skills. Pujara believes they are transforming Powerplay batting and have significant potential for future development.
“What impresses me is their clarity. At their age, many players are still discovering their style, but Priyansh and Vaibhav know precisely how they want to approach the game. It’s not just about aggressive hitting; it’s about having confidence in their intent. Vaibhav’s raw power and Priyansh’s timing are redefining what Powerplay can be, and they are doing it on their own terms. Their growth potential is very exciting,” Pujara remarked.
Umesh Yadav highlighted the duo's adaptability as a key factor in their success. He praised their blend of aggression and smart strike rotation, along with their strong game awareness and self-identity.
“There’s no doubt about their talent, but what sets them apart is their ability to adjust within an innings. They can switch from aggressive play to rotating the strike, assessing the situation before launching another attack. This level of T20 thinking is impressive. Their fearless approach is just the surface; underneath lies a strong understanding of the game and a clear sense of self. They are not imitating anyone; they are comfortable being themselves, which is why they stand out this season,” Umesh stated.
Looking ahead, Rajasthan Royals will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 25, while Punjab Kings will face Delhi Capitals on the same day.
