Guwahati (Assam) [India], April 8: Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opener for Rajasthan Royals (RR), showcased his strategic mindset and teamwork after being awarded Player of the Match in their 27-run triumph against Mumbai Indians (MI) during a rain-affected Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match on Tuesday.
Jaiswal delivered an impressive performance, scoring an unbeaten 77 runs off just 32 balls, which included 10 boundaries and four sixes. His efforts propelled RR to a formidable total of 150 runs for 3 wickets in a match that was reduced to 11 overs due to rain.
In the post-match interview, Jaiswal shared his tactical approach during the brief powerplay, emphasizing his focus on identifying bowlers to target. He stated, “I had a plan in mind since it was only a three-over powerplay. I decided to take on DC (Deepak Chahar) bhai, and then I thought Vaibhav could handle Bumrah bhai while I targeted someone else.”
Addressing the challenges of playing across formats, Jaiswal acknowledged the difficulties but underscored the significance of thorough preparation. “Playing all formats is tough. I strive to give my best every time, ensuring I develop various shots and adapt to different pitches. Proper preparation is key,” he remarked.
The young cricketer highlighted the importance of situational awareness and flexibility in his game strategy. “I aim to grasp the situation and consider how I can contribute to the team. Knowing what is needed and which shots to play is crucial,” he explained.
Jaiswal also commended his opening partner, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, for his outstanding performances, noting that their discussions on the field have been inspiring. “His performance has been exceptional. I find motivation in his play. We talk about our strategies, and I encourage him to play freely. He has a great understanding of the game and can perform independently,” he added.
Currently, RR leads the points table with three wins out of three matches, showcasing remarkable form under captain Riyan Parag. Meanwhile, MI, after a victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has struggled against Delhi Capitals (DC) and RR, placing them seventh in the standings.
Batting first, RR scored 150 runs in 11 overs, with Jaiswal (77* off 32 balls) and Sooryavanshi (39 off 14 balls) dominating the MI bowlers. In their chase, MI struggled to maintain momentum, losing wickets frequently, with Burger (2/21), Sandeep (2/25), and Bishnoi (2/26) being the standout bowlers.
