Rajasthan Royals Face Setback Against Gujarat Titans

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], May 10: In a recent Indian Premier League (IPL) match, Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced a significant defeat, losing by 77 runs to Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Stand-in captain Yashasvi Jaiswal acknowledged the impressive performance of the GT batters following the match.

Jaiswal, who filled in for the injured Riyan Parag, opted to bowl first, leading to RR conceding 229 runs in the first innings, thanks to notable contributions from GT captain Shubman Gill, who scored 84 runs, and Sai Sudharsan, who added 55 runs. In their chase for 230 runs, RR was bowled out for just 152 runs in 16.3 overs.

During the post-match press conference, Jaiswal emphasized the team's strategy of limiting boundaries and maintaining disciplined bowling. He commended the GT batters for their execution and the pressure they placed on RR's bowlers.

“We aimed to bowl in good areas, but they played exceptionally well. Our focus was on reducing boundaries and big shots, and they managed to do well,” he remarked.

Jofra Archer, RR's leading pace bowler, had a challenging day, conceding 46 runs in three overs without taking a wicket. Jaiswal expressed his support for Archer, stating that off-days are part of the game and he is confident that Archer will rebound strongly. He mentioned that the team would analyze their performance and seek improvements for future matches.

“We all experience days when things don’t go as planned. I believe he will return stronger. We will assess what we can improve and learn from this match,” Jaiswal added.

In their pursuit of 230 runs, RR started aggressively with 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scoring 36 runs off 16 balls. However, the innings faltered after losing early wickets. Rashid Khan was the standout bowler for GT, taking four wickets, while Jason Holder contributed with three wickets, leading to RR's collapse.

GT set a challenging target of 229/4, bolstered by Shubman Gill's 84 off 44 balls and Sai Sudharsan's 55. Washington Sundar also played a crucial role, scoring an unbeaten 37 off 20 balls, while Rahul Tewatia's late hitting helped GT score 21 runs in the final over.
