Xavier Bartlett's Aspirations in Cricket
New Delhi [India] - April 23: Xavier Bartlett, the Australian fast bowler representing Punjab Kings (PBKS), has been honing his defensive bowling techniques and batting skills. As the Australian bowling lineup approaches a transitional phase, Bartlett's ambition is to earn the esteemed Baggy Green cap in Test cricket.
During a recent discussion, Bartlett highlighted PBKS's impressive performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where they have secured five victories and one match resulted in no result, accumulating 11 points and inching closer to playoff qualification. The 27-year-old has participated in every match thus far, claiming four wickets with an average of 57.00 and an economy rate of 10.52, achieving best figures of 2/9.
In his brief international career, the Queensland pacer has made a mark by taking 24 wickets in 21 T20Is at an average of 22.04 and an economy rate of 7.95, with his best performance being 3/13. In the One Day Internationals (ODIs), he has taken 15 wickets at an impressive average of 11.13, including two four-wicket hauls and best figures of 4/17.
Bartlett has dismissed some of the top players in the world, including Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, and Shubman Gill, showcasing his talent in limited-overs cricket. Following these achievements, he is now focused on earning the Baggy Green cap and has been learning from the experienced pace trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc, who are nearing the end of their illustrious careers.
To secure a regular spot in the national team across formats and earn his Test cap, Bartlett is dedicated to improving his defensive bowling and batting skills. With a batting average of 16.11 and a strike rate exceeding 125, he has scored 548 runs in T20 cricket, including a notable cameo of 11 runs against Gujarat Titans, where he steadied the innings alongside his teammate Cooper Connolly.
Reflecting on his experience with the 'Big Three' bowlers, Bartlett expressed gratitude for their influence on his career. He stated, "Having those three boys (Cummins, Hazlewood, Starc) in particular has been amazing for my career. They are among the best, and their performances are inspiring. My focus is on enhancing my skills and continuing to grow as a player."
Bartlett has also represented Queensland in 32 first-class matches, taking 111 wickets at an average of 25.77, including seven four-wicket hauls and three five-wicket hauls. Like many aspiring cricketers in Australia, he dreams of donning the prestigious Baggy Green Test cap.
He concluded, "Growing up, I always wanted to play Test cricket for Australia and earn that Baggy Green. With so many talented bowlers in Australian cricket, my goal is to stay fit, perform well, and let the rest fall into place."
