Mumbai Indians Triumph Over Sunrisers Hyderabad

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 18: In a thrilling encounter at Wankhede Stadium, Will Jacks showcased his all-round skills, leading the Mumbai Indians (MI) to a vital four-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2025. Chasing a target of 163 runs, MI successfully reached their goal in just 18.1 overs, marking their third victory of the season.

Jacks played a pivotal role in both bowling and batting. He took two crucial wickets, dismissing Ishan Kishan and Travis Head, and ended with impressive bowling figures of 2/14. With the bat, he contributed significantly, scoring 36 runs off 26 balls, which helped stabilize the innings during the middle overs.

His outstanding performance earned him the 'Player of the Match' title, and he reflected on the initial struggles he faced in the tournament.

"The tournament has been a slow start for both the team and myself, which was quite frustrating," Jacks shared during the post-match interview.

He expressed relief at his performance, stating, "I’m very happy to have done that." Jacks also addressed a missed catch early in the game, admitting, "It was a tough start, dropping a catch on the first ball. I was a bit late on it; there’s not much else to say, I should’ve caught it." Despite this early setback, he made a significant impact with both bat and ball.

Having joined MI this season, Jacks noted that it took him some time to adjust to the new environment, but he now feels comfortable. "It took me a bit of time to settle into the new franchise, but I’m feeling confident now," he remarked.

He praised the team setup, saying, "It’s a great setup with many star players to learn from, and I’m trying to take advantage of that." This victory lifted the Mumbai Indians to seventh place in the points table, keeping their playoff aspirations alive. Conversely, the loss marked SRH's fifth defeat of the season, further complicating their campaign.

In the match, MI won the toss and chose to field first. Abhishek Sharma (40 runs off 28 balls, including seven fours) and Head (28 runs off 29 balls, with three fours) formed a solid 59-run partnership. However, SRH struggled to maintain a high run rate, despite contributions from Heinrich Klaasen (37 runs off 28 balls, with three fours and two sixes), finishing their innings at 162/5. Will Jacks (2/14) and Jasprit Bumrah (1/21) were the standout bowlers for MI.

During the chase, MI's top order made significant contributions, with Rohit Sharma (26 runs off 16 balls, hitting three sixes) and Ryan Rickelton (31 runs off 23 balls, with five fours) helping the team reach 69/2. A crucial 52-run partnership between Will Jacks (36 runs off 26 balls, with three fours and two sixes) and Suryakumar Yadav (26 runs off 15 balls, with two fours and two sixes) brought MI close to victory, although SRH bowlers fought back. Tilak Varma (21* runs off 17 balls, with a four) and Mitchell Santner (0*) secured the win for MI with 11 balls to spare.

For SRH, skipper Pat Cummins (3/26) and Eshan Malinga (2/36) delivered commendable bowling performances, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to clinch the win.
