Virat Kohli Shines in RCB's Victory Over LSG Despite Fitness Concerns
Kohli's Performance Amid Recovery
In Bengaluru, Virat Kohli, the star batsman for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), shared insights on his ongoing recovery from a knee issue and a recent illness. Following his innings against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Wednesday night, he expressed satisfaction with his rhythm and intent at the crease.
Kohli acknowledged the difficulties posed by a slowing pitch, which required him to adapt his game. While he contributed significantly to the team's success, he expressed a desire to have finished the match himself, remaining unbeaten.
His impressive innings, along with valuable contributions from Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma, led RCB to a convincing five-wicket victory over LSG in the Indian Premier League (IPL), placing them at the top of the points table.
Reflecting on his performance, Kohli stated, "I felt much better than in the previous match. Although I'm not fully fit yet, my knee was sore last game, and I've been unwell for several days. I was pleased with my intensity today, but I would have preferred to finish the game myself. The pitch conditions were challenging, and I aimed to maintain my momentum throughout the innings."
He elaborated on the pitch's condition, noting it was slower and drier than usual due to the extreme heat and minimal grass coverage, which differed from the typical tacky surfaces at the venue.
Kohli mentioned the team's strategy to take advantage of the power play by applying pressure on the opposition. He felt his aggressive start was crucial in giving RCB an early lead.
He concluded, "The pitch was slower than expected, and the last few days have been extremely hot and dry. We anticipated a dry, slow wicket rather than the usual tacky ones at Chinnaswamy. Therefore, we aimed to dominate the game early on, especially in the first five to six overs, which made our powerplay batting essential."
Rasikh Salam Dar led a strong bowling effort, restricting LSG to a modest total of 146 runs against the defending champions, RCB.
In response, Kohli played a pivotal role in the chase, scoring a solid 49 runs, while skipper Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma contributed with 27 and 23 runs, respectively, helping RCB secure a comfortable victory at 149/5 in just 15.1 overs.
