Virat Kohli's Record-Breaking Performance
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 3: In a thrilling encounter at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bengaluru showcased his extraordinary six-hitting skills, breaking multiple records against Chennai Super Kings.
Kohli's explosive innings of 62 runs off just 33 balls, featuring five fours and five sixes, not only contributed to his team's total but also etched his name further into IPL history. This remarkable performance marked his fourth consecutive score of over 50 for RCB in the lucrative league.
With this match, Kohli surpassed the 300 sixes milestone for RCB, bringing his total to 304 sixes. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as it mirrors a similar feat he accomplished in 2016.
Additionally, this innings marked Kohli's 10th score of 50 or more against Chennai, setting a record for the most such scores against a single team in IPL history. He surpassed the previous record held by Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, and David Warner, each with nine scores of 50-plus against the Super Kings.
In terms of overall runs, Kohli now has 1,146 runs against Chennai in the IPL, the highest by any player against a specific team, surpassing David Warner's tally of 1,134 runs against Punjab Kings.
The atmosphere in the stadium was electric as fans chanted his name, and Kohli took full advantage of the home conditions. His six-hitting spree began in the third over, where he effortlessly sent the ball soaring into the crowd.
On the very next ball, he capitalized on a delivery from Khaleel Ahmed that strayed into his pads, sending it over deep square leg for another six.
Kohli's six-hitting continued during the powerplay, with Anshul Kamboj making a similar error, allowing Kohli to whip the ball in front of square for yet another maximum.
Even after the powerplay restrictions were lifted, Kohli maintained his aggressive approach, reading Sam Curran's slower ball perfectly and dispatching it over the deep mid-wicket fence.
His six-hitting prowess was on full display in the 11th over as he created space for himself and swept the ball for another towering six. Kohli's remarkable innings laid the groundwork for Bengaluru to finish with a total of 213 runs for 5 wickets.
