Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 24: Virat Kohli has made history by becoming the first player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to hit 800 fours. This remarkable achievement occurred during his innings of 81 runs in the match where Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) faced off against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday.
With a total of 807 boundaries in 274 IPL matches, Kohli holds the record for the most fours in the tournament's history, significantly ahead of Shikhar Dhawan, who is in second place with 768 fours.
Additionally, Kohli is now one of only three players to have hit 300 sixes in IPL history, joining Chris Gayle (357 sixes) and Rohit Sharma (310 sixes). Currently, Kohli has achieved 303 sixes.
In his innings against GT, Kohli scored 81 runs off 44 deliveries, including eight fours and four sixes. This performance also earned him the Orange Cap as the leading run-scorer in IPL 2026.
Match Highlights: RCB's Chase
In the match, Kohli, alongside Devdutt Padikkal, played a crucial role in leading RCB to a thrilling victory, successfully chasing down a challenging target of 206 runs with seven balls remaining.
RCB faced an early setback when GT's pacer Mohammed Siraj dismissed opener Jacob Bethell, leaving the team at 26/1 in just three overs. However, the top order responded well, with Kohli's classic half-century setting the pace, while Padikkal contributed significantly with 55 runs off 27 balls. Together, they formed a formidable partnership, adding 115 runs in just 59 balls.
After the quick dismissals of Kohli and Padikkal, the match became tense as Rashid Khan and Manav Suthar took crucial wickets, leaving RCB at 175/5 after 16 overs. The pressure mounted as RCB lost Rajat Patidar (8) and Jitesh Sharma (10).
With 31 runs needed from the last four overs, Krunal Pandya emerged as the match-winner for RCB, scoring an unbeaten 23 runs off 12 balls. He aggressively attacked the GT bowlers, scoring 15 runs in the 18th over, which eased the pressure on RCB. Tim David also contributed with a quick 10 runs off nine balls.
Krunal sealed the victory by pulling a short ball from Jason Holder to the deep square leg, allowing RCB to finish at 206/5 in 18.5 overs. This win secured two crucial points for RCB, elevating them to second place in the IPL 2026 standings with 10 points from seven matches, including five wins and two losses.
