RCB's Triumph in IPL: Kohli Reflects on the Journey

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 1: After clinching their second consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) title, Virat Kohli, a key player for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), expressed that it felt like a 'daydream' for the team, emphasizing the high stakes of modern cricket.

Kohli's exceptional performance, scoring an impressive 75* off 42 balls, alongside stellar bowling from Rasikh Dar Salam, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Josh Hazlewood, propelled RCB to victory after a 17-season wait for a trophy. His innings included nine fours and three sixes, showcasing his skill during a tense chase of 156 runs.

In his post-match comments, Kohli, who achieved his fastest IPL fifty in just 25 balls, remarked, 'This is the stuff dreams are made of. I envisioned this moment many times, and tonight it became a reality. We approached the game with confidence and clarity, which helped us navigate through challenging situations.'

He acknowledged the need to adapt to the evolving demands of the game, stating, 'In today's cricket, scoring extra runs is crucial. I had to shift my mindset to face the best bowlers more aggressively.'

Kohli also stressed the importance of experienced players stepping up in critical moments, saying, 'While excitement is essential, it's the seasoned players who shine in tough situations. We respect all teams and focus on our game.'

He praised the coaching staff, including head coach Andy Flower and batting coach Dinesh Karthik, for their strategic guidance, which contributed to the team's success. Kohli noted, 'Mo Bobat reminded us that winning last year was just the beginning, and we aimed for back-to-back titles, which we achieved.'

Kohli highlighted Venkatesh Iyer's impactful contributions throughout the season, particularly in the last few matches, and their discussions about dominating the power play.

Reflecting on the unwavering support from RCB fans, he said, 'We have a dedicated fan base that cheers us on wherever we go. Their support is invaluable, and we strive to make them proud.'

In the tournament, Kohli finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer with 675 runs in 16 innings, averaging 56.25 with a strike rate of 165.84, including a century and five fifties.

In the final match, GT batted first, managing only 155/8 in 20 overs, with Washington Sundar and Nishant Sindhu being the only players to score above 20 runs. RCB's bowlers, particularly Rasikh Dar Salam (3/27), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/29), and Josh Hazlewood (2/37), consistently took wickets.

RCB's chase began strongly with a 62-run partnership between Venkatesh Iyer (32 off 16 balls) and Kohli, who ultimately led the team to victory with two overs remaining, securing their second IPL title and fourth overall in Indian franchise cricket, including two Women's Premier League (WPL) titles.
