Tragic Incident During IPL Celebrations
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 4: In a heartbreaking turn of events, a stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru resulted in the loss of 11 lives on Wednesday. Virat Kohli, the opener for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), expressed his sorrow, stating he is "absolutely devastated."
The tragic incident unfolded during RCB's IPL victory celebrations, where a massive crowd had gathered to see their favorite players.
In an emotional Instagram post, Kohli shared, "I am at a loss for words. Absolutely devastated."

AB De Villiers, a former captain of South Africa and ex-RCB player, also shared his condolences regarding the stampede. He posted on Instagram, "My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the tragic events at the Chinnaswamy Stadium today."
Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that 11 individuals lost their lives and 33 others sustained injuries in the incident.
The Chief Minister announced that the government would cover the medical expenses for the injured. He stated, "A significant tragedy occurred during the victory celebrations near Chinnaswamy Stadium. The government has declared a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the deceased and will ensure free treatment for the injured."
Expressing his deep sorrow, CM Siddaramaiah remarked, "This tragedy should not have happened. The government conveys its heartfelt condolences over this incident."
RCB recently celebrated their long-awaited IPL victory, clinching the trophy after 18 years by defeating Punjab Kings by six wickets in the IPL 2025 finals held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings, having reached their second final in 11 years, will continue their quest for their first title.
