Kohli Reaches 1000 Runs Against KKR

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], March 22: In a remarkable feat, Virat Kohli, the opener for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), became the third player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to surpass 1000 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

During the match held at Eden Gardens, Kohli delivered an impressive performance, scoring an unbeaten 59 runs off 36 balls, which included four boundaries and three sixes.

This achievement places him alongside former Australian opener David Warner (1093 runs) and ex-Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma (1070 runs) as the only players to reach this milestone against KKR.

Prior to the IPL 2025 opener, Kohli was honored with an 'IPL 18' memento by Roger Binny, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), during the opening ceremony.

Having been a part of RCB since the league's inception, Kohli captained the team from 2011 to 2023. He holds the record for the highest runs in IPL history, amassing 8,004 runs in 252 matches, which includes eight centuries and 55 half-centuries.

Despite his stellar performance in the 2016 season, where he scored 973 runs with four centuries, Kohli has yet to secure an IPL trophy, illustrating the unpredictable nature of team sports. Notably, this match also marked his 400th appearance in T20 cricket.

Before receiving his accolade, Kohli showcased his dance skills alongside Shah Rukh Khan, performing to the hit song 'Jhoome Jo Pathaan'.

Shah Rukh Khan enthusiastically welcomed Kohli to the stage, declaring, 'The King of 22 yards and a billion hearts. Let's hear it for the one and only, the GOAT, Virat Kohli.'
