Kohli Makes History in T20 Cricket

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], May 14: Virat Kohli, the star batter for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has etched his name in history by becoming the first Indian player to score 14,000 runs in T20 cricket.

Kohli reached this remarkable milestone while playing against Kolkata Knight Riders during Match 57 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, achieving it with his 78th run on Wednesday night in Raipur. He is now the sixth player globally to reach this significant achievement.

The seasoned batter showcased his exceptional skills by scoring a magnificent century against KKR, marking his ninth IPL hundred with some extraordinary shots.

In the all-time T20 run-scoring rankings, Kohli is currently behind Chris Gayle (14,562), Kieron Pollard (14,482), Alex Hales (14,449), David Warner (14,284), and Jos Buttler (14,200).

Additionally, Kohli has set a new record for the fastest player to reach 14,000 T20 runs, accomplishing this feat in just 409 innings, surpassing Chris Gayle's previous record of 423 innings.

Chris Gayle holds the record for the most centuries in T20 cricket with 22, while Babar Azam follows with 13. Kohli and David Warner are tied for third place with 10 centuries each.

Rilee Rossouw and Sahibzada Farhan have nine centuries each, along with Quinton de Kock and Abhishek Sharma, who also share nine T20 hundreds. With this achievement, Kohli becomes the first Indian to hit 10 T20 centuries.

After facing two consecutive ducks prior to this match, Kohli's unbeaten 105 runs off 60 balls led the defending champions RCB to a six-wicket victory over KKR at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.

Despite a challenging target of 193, Kohli's century (105*, including 11 fours and three sixes) and Devdutt Padikkal's contribution of 39 runs ensured RCB's comfortable win with five balls to spare.
