Delhi Capitals' Young Star Reflects on Team Spirit

New Delhi [India] - April 17: Vipraj Nigam, who made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) last season, has quickly established himself as a key player for the Delhi Capitals. He has formed a formidable spin partnership with Captain Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Although the team has faced defeats in their last two matches, Nigam remains confident about the squad's spirit.

The Delhi Capitals are on a quest for their first IPL title this year. After a promising start to the 2026 season with a couple of victories, the team has recently suffered consecutive losses against GT and CSK, placing them fifth in the standings.

During an interview on the 'JioStar Press Room', Nigam shared insights on the team's morale following the recent defeats in IPL 2026.

“Our morale is still high. We may have lost the last two matches, but we have analyzed our mistakes. With almost a week since our last game, we’ve had the opportunity to focus on areas that need improvement, and we aim to return stronger in the upcoming matches. The atmosphere within the team is positive. Senior players and coaching staff have encouraged us to express ourselves freely, alleviating any pressure. We know we are playing well; we just need to make those small adjustments,” he stated.

The 21-year-old all-rounder also discussed the growth he has experienced since his IPL debut in 2025.

“I’ve noticed significant changes. I participated in the entire domestic season for Uttar Pradesh and played in India A matches. The lessons I learned from last year’s IPL have been beneficial in domestic cricket. Playing for India A was a tremendous learning opportunity, exposing me to new teammates and some of India’s top international players. Sharing the dressing room with them and acquiring new skills was invaluable. I’ve tried to implement what I learned in all the tournaments leading up to the IPL and during practice sessions,” he explained.

Nigam has claimed 12 wickets in his IPL career while also scoring 154 runs.

“Axar Patel, KL Rahul, and the entire coaching staff have always treated me with respect, never making me feel inexperienced. Throughout my matches, I’ve received unwavering support, learning how to handle pressure and engage more in the game. I’ve always felt comfortable approaching them with any questions or uncertainties. Their support has been incredible,” he added.

The Delhi Capitals are set to face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their next IPL match on Saturday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
