Chakravarthy Embraces New IPL Challenge

Despite being a key player in India's Champions Trophy victory, Varun Chakravarthy acknowledges that the IPL poses a unique set of challenges, referring to it as a 'different beast' that requires a fresh start.

Chakravarthy played a pivotal role in India's triumph, taking five wickets in his debut match against New Zealand and concluding the tournament with nine wickets across three games.

However, he is cautious about relying on past achievements.

"Confidence is subjective. Each tournament is a new beginning, regardless of previous victories," Chakravarthy stated during a pre-match press conference before facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

"You must reset to zero. Scoring a century in the last game means nothing for the next one."

"While I performed well in the last tournament, the IPL is a different game altogether. I understand the challenges ahead and must stay alert."

When asked about maintaining his mystery as a bowler amidst technological advancements, Chakravarthy shared his strategic approach.

"The ball can only move in three directions: left, right, or straight. It’s about how I sequence my deliveries, whether I choose off-spin or leg-spin. This is where the tactical aspect of the game comes into play, and I aim to enhance that skill," he explained.

With Ajinkya Rahane taking over as captain and Dwayne Bravo stepping in as team mentor, the dynamics within the team may have evolved.

Chakravarthy mentioned that he has communicated with Rahane and is prepared to bowl whenever required.

"I don’t decide when to bowl; that’s the captain’s call. I’m ready whenever he needs me," he remarked.

"In the past, I’ve bowled during power plays, in the middle overs, and at the death. With a new captain, we’ve discussed where I can be most effective, and I’ve shared my thoughts with him."

Chakravarthy expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to bowl against Virat Kohli in the opening match.

"I’m definitely looking forward to facing Virat. He has performed well against me, and I aim to do my best against him as well," he said.

He also noted that the rule changes for IPL 2025, particularly the introduction of two balls in the second innings of night matches to mitigate the dew effect, could benefit spinners.

"Changing the ball might assist spinners with the dew issue. When the ball is swapped, the 11th, 12th, and 13th overs could see spinners bowling, as the ball won’t be as wet," he added.
