Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines at IPL 2026 with Multiple Awards
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Stellar Performance
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 1: The IPL 2026 concluded with rising star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi taking home multiple accolades, including Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player of the Season, Super Striker of the Season, Orange Cap, and Super Sixes of the Season.
The 15-year-old batter from Bihar showcased an outstanding performance for the Rajasthan Royals, amassing a remarkable 776 runs at an impressive strike rate of 237.30, making him the tournament's leading run-scorer.
Sooryavanshi's remarkable consistency, highlighted by a record-setting 72 sixes, allowed him to break several long-standing IPL records, solidifying his status as a promising talent in Indian cricket.
At just 15 years and 65 days, he became the youngest player to win the Orange Cap, surpassing the previous record held by Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans, who won it at 23 years and 231 days in 2025, and Shubman Gill's record of 23 years and 263 days in 2023.
Despite coming close to matching Virat Kohli's record of four centuries in a single season, Sooryavanshi fell short, having been dismissed in the nineties on three occasions—93 against Lucknow Super Giants, 97 in the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, and 96 in Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans—alongside his century against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
He also achieved the milestone of 1,000 IPL runs in record time, needing only 440 balls, surpassing the legendary Andre Russell. In terms of innings, he became the second fastest to reach this milestone, doing so in 23 innings, with Shaun Marsh holding the record at 21 innings.
"It feels great, but I am a bit nervous about giving this interview. I haven't been drinking milk lately. Each game requires a different approach. To avoid injuries, I need to focus on my fitness. The support from senior players and the coaching staff has been incredible, creating a positive environment," Sooryavanshi expressed after receiving the Most Valuable Player award.
In the IPL 2026 final, after being put to bat first by RCB, GT managed to score only 155/8 in their 20 overs, with Washington Sundar (50* off 37 balls, including five fours) and Nishant Sindhu (20 off 18 balls, with three fours) being the only players to score above 20 runs. Rasikh Dar Salam (3/27), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/29), and Josh Hazlewood (2/37) consistently took wickets.
RCB began their chase strongly with a 62-run partnership between Venkatesh Iyer (32 off 16 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes) and Virat Kohli. Although GT fought back, reducing RCB to 132/5 at one point, Virat (75* off 42 balls, with nine fours and three sixes) led RCB to victory with two overs to spare.
This marks RCB's second IPL title and their fourth overall in Indian franchise cricket, which includes two Women’s Premier League (WPL) titles.
