Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Sets IPL Record as Fastest to 400 Runs in a Season
Historic Achievement in IPL 2026
In a remarkable display of talent, Rajasthan Royals' opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 by becoming the quickest player to score 400 runs in a single season, accomplishing this milestone in just 167 balls, as reported by a sports media outlet.
The 15-year-old prodigy reached this significant achievement during a match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Tuesday night.
This record places Sooryavanshi ahead of some of the most explosive hitters in IPL history. The previous record was held by Andre Russell, who reached the 400-run mark in 188 balls during the 2019 season.
Following him are India's Abhishek Sharma, who took 195 balls in the 2024 season, Nicholas Pooran with 197 balls in 2025, and Glenn Maxwell, who achieved it in 200 balls back in 2014.
In the current IPL 2026 season, Sooryavanshi has become the first player to surpass the 400-run threshold. Over nine matches, he has accumulated 400 runs with an impressive average of 44.44 and a phenomenal strike rate of 238.09.
The young talent has recorded two half-centuries and one century, the latter being against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Jaipur.
Sooryavanshi's consistent performance and aggressive batting style have been standout features of this season, as he continues to dominate bowling attacks with his exceptional strike rate.
In the match itself, the Punjab Kings faced their first defeat of IPL 2026. After being put to bat first, PBKS scored 222/4, thanks to half-centuries from Marcus Stoinis (62* off 22 balls, including four boundaries and six sixes) and Prabhsimran Singh (59 off 44 balls, with six fours and a six).
During the chase, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (43 off 16 balls, with three fours and five sixes) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (51 off 27 balls, with seven fours and a six) established a solid 51-run partnership.
A crucial fifth-wicket partnership of 77 runs between Donovan Ferreira (52* off 26 balls, with six fours and three sixes) and Shubham Dubey (31* off 12 balls, with three fours and two sixes) secured the victory with four balls remaining.
Despite the loss, PBKS remains at the top of the standings with 13 points from six wins, one no result, and one loss, while RR climbs to third place with six wins and three losses, totaling 12 points.
