Transformative Power of Sports Discussed

New Delhi [India] - On May 7, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, participated in a special screening of the documentary 'Bicharpur – Junoon Football Ka'. This film showcases inspiring narratives from grassroots football and emphasizes the significant role sports play in societal transformation.

During his address following the screening, Mandaviya emphasized the potential of sports to influence young individuals positively and provide them with a purposeful direction. He articulated that sports transcend mere competition; they embody a lifestyle that fosters culture, discipline, mental resilience, and a sense of community.

“A quarter-century ago, numerous youths were veering off course, but their engagement with sports redirected their lives. Sports empower young leaders and channel their energies constructively,” Mandaviya remarked, as reported by the Union Sports Ministry.

He also highlighted the broader social benefits of community involvement in sports, citing the Kodava community of Coorg and their rich hockey tradition. Such community-led sports initiatives cultivate unity, discipline, shared responsibility, and national pride.

“Sports fosters a spirit of togetherness and a commitment to the nation. While individuals engage in sports for personal growth, they simultaneously elevate the nation's stature,” he added.

Dr. Mandaviya further stressed the significance of storytelling and the preservation of these journeys, advocating for the documentation of grassroots sports narratives. “When efforts are documented, they become sources of inspiration. These stories can motivate youth and entire communities,” he stated.

The Minister also underscored the necessity of recognition and encouragement within the sports realm. He pointed out that platforms that celebrate talent bolster self-esteem among young people and ultimately enhance national pride.
