Tim David Penalized for Code of Conduct Breach

New Delhi [India], June 1: Tim David, a batter for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has been fined 50% of his match fee and received two demerit points for violating Level 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during the final against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

As a consequence of accumulating five demerit points, David will be sidelined for the opening match of the next IPL season.

According to a statement released on Monday, the IPL found David guilty of breaching Article 2.9 of its Code of Conduct, which prohibits throwing any cricket equipment, including items like water bottles, at or near players, officials, umpires, or any other individuals in a dangerous or inappropriate manner during a match.

The incident occurred during the 10th over of the first innings when David, after a wicket fell, threw an ice bag aggressively towards umpire Nitin Menon.

"David was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which relates to throwing a ball or any other item of cricket equipment at or near a Player, Team Official, Umpire, Match Referee, or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a Match," the IPL statement explained.

Tim David acknowledged his wrongdoing and accepted the penalty imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath.

This incident marks David's third Level 1 breach this season, having previously received one demerit point in Match 20 and two in Match 54. With the latest infraction, his total now stands at five, which according to IPL rules, results in an automatic one-match suspension. Consequently, he will miss RCB's first match of the next IPL season or the first game of whichever franchise he plays for in IPL 2027.

In the IPL 2026 final, RCB secured their second consecutive title by defeating GT by five wickets. This victory made RCB only the third team, alongside Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI), to successfully defend their IPL title.

The Rajat Patidar-led team managed to restrict GT to 155/8 in the first innings and chased down the target with five wickets in hand and two overs to spare, with Virat Kohli scoring an impressive 75 runs off 42 balls.
